Women in the Workplace
April 17 , 2012: Equal Pay Day
This year’s Equal Pay Day is Tuesday, April 17, 2012. This date symbolizes how far into 2012 women must work to earn what men earned in 2011.
Equal Pay Day was originated by the National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE) in 1996 as a public awareness event to illustrate the gap between men’s and women’s wages.
Because women earn less, on average, than men, they must work longer for the same amount of pay. This wage gap is even greater for most women of color.
April 26, 2012: Take our Sons and Daughters to Work Day
“Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work” Day inspires future generations of girls and boys by bringing them into the workplace in a way that goes beyond the average “shadow” an adult program.
From sharing what they envision for the future, and beginning steps toward their end goals, girls and boys are provided an opportunity to discover the power and possibilities they have for their life.
This organization is celebrating 20 years of its program history this year. Now, more than 37 million youth and adults participate in interactive environments in more than 3.5 million workplaces. .
